Safety by choice, not by chance
Slip testing across Leicestershire
Independent, UKAS-accredited floor testing — grip measured wet and dry, by pendulum and surface roughness, with a report that proves a floor is safe.
Fig. 1 — the PTV scale. 36+ is low slip risk.
The two tests
Pendulum and roughness
Two complementary HSE-recognised methods, and we’re accredited for both. The pendulum measures grip directly; surface roughness (Rz) tracks how a floor changes over time and matters most in contaminated areas like kitchens and food plants.
| PTV result | Slip risk |
|---|---|
| 0–24 | High |
| 25–35 | Moderate |
| 36 + | Low |
| Surface roughness (Rz) | Slip risk |
|---|---|
| Below 10 | High |
| 10–20 | Moderate |
| Above 20 | Low |

The duty & the proof
From assumption to evidence
Every employer and occupier has a legal duty to keep floors safe and assess the risk; in care settings, the CQC expects slip risk to be actively managed. A measured PTV is the evidence an insurer, the HSE or the CQC will accept.
Independent, and accredited
This service is delivered by Surface Performance — entirely independent, with no connection to any flooring or treatment company and nothing to sell but the test. The same accredited lab trusted on sites from Amazon and Gatwick to British Airways and TUI, which also tests over 300 flooring products a year.
